Katy Swedlund, PA-C
Katy Swedlund is a board-certified Physician Assistant who is new to the field of radiation oncology and practices out of the Advent Health Cancer Institute & Outpatient Center in Hinsdale. After completing her undergraduate degree in Dietetics at Purdue University in 2007 she spent 5 years practicing as a Registered Dietitian before deciding to make a career change. Katy completed her Masters in Physician Assistant Studies at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland Oregon in 2014 prior to moving back to Chicago. For the past three and a half years Katy has gained vast experience and knowledge in the Emergency Room at John H Stroger Cook County Hospital. After a recent move to the suburbs and the arrival of their first child, Katy and her husband decided it was time to explore career opportunities closer to home. She joined the ROC team in May 2018 and works primarily with Dr. Patrick Sweeney and Dr. Kapila Kalakota to help provide education to new patients, manage side effects while on treatment and monitor patients during follow up appointments. Katy and her husband spend their "leisure time" navigating their new role as parents while attempting to catch up on sleep. When asked why she chose Radiation Oncology, she states, “It's the people I've met at ROC and and the opportunity to build lasting relationships with my patients while being challenged by the ever changing field of oncology.”
