Dr. Hartsell primarily practices at Ascension Alexian Brothers Medical Center. He has significant experience in the use of nearly all types of radiation therapy, including conformal 3D therapy, intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), stereotactic radiosurgery, high dose rate brachytherapy, radiopharmaceuticals and proton therapy. He has directed a number of national studies, published more than 100 papers in the medical literature, and given local and national lectures on various topics regarding cancer treatment, including many papers on breast cancer treatment, brain tumor treatment, prostate cancer treatment, head and neck cancer, lung cancer, sarcomas, Hodgkin’s disease, ocular melanoma and palliative care.

He has had leadership roles in many national organizations, including American Society for Radiation Oncology, National Association for Proton Therapy, and Proton Collaborative Group. He was on the board of directors of the Illinois Division of the American Cancer Society. He has been honored with Fellowship in the American Society for Radiation Oncology, the American College of Radiology and the American College of Radiation Oncology.

Dr. Hartsell is happily married and enjoys spending time with his grandchildren.
