Dr. Andruska works primarily at the Northwestern Medicine Chicago Proton Center and in the Northwestern Medical System. He has interests in a broad range of cancers including central nervous system (CNS), head and neck, breast, prostate, lymphoma, thoracic, and skin cancers. He has expertise in the use of intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), proton therapy, stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), and brachytherapy. He has training expertise in the treatment of brain and spine tumors using of stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), hippocampal sparing IMRT, and proton therapy. He is a member of the American Board of Radiology, the American Society for Radiation Oncology, and the Society for Neuro-Oncology.

A Chicago native, he received his undergraduate degree from Benedictine University. He earned a PhD in biochemistry and his medical degree from The University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, as part of the combined Medical Scholars (MD/PhD) Program. He discovered and developed a new class of drugs to treat therapy-resistant breast and gynecological cancers, which is currently in clinical trials and was recently licensed to Bayer Pharmaceuticals. Following medical school, he completed an Internship in Internal Medicine at University of Illinois before completing his radiation oncology residency training at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. During his clinical training, he was a recipient of the American Board of Radiology Holman Research Award, and completed a post-doctoral fellowship investigating the use of CAR T cell therapies in lymphomas and adult and pediatric brain cancers. Dr. Andruska has published more than 30 manuscripts including first-author papers in the Journal of the American Medical Association, Journal of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, Oncogene, and the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Several of his studies are currently included in the national treatment guidelines for skin and prostate cancer. He has presented his work at several international meetings, and he currently serves as an ad hoc reviewer for numerous cancer journals.

Dr. Andruska is passionate about patient care and improving patient outcomes. When asked why he became a radiation oncologist, Dr. Andruska said, “I am inspired every day by the courage and strength of my patients, and I am privileged to have the opportunity to provide cancer care and to advocate for my patients during this critical moment in their lives.” Outside of work, Dr. Andruska spends his leisure time with his wife and daughter and enjoys outdoor activities, traveling, and is an avid baseball fan.
