Dr. Kharouta is a board-certified radiation oncologist practicing primarily at Advocate Illinois Masonic Hospital. While he treats a broad spectrum of cancers, his clinical practice focuses heavily on gynecologic and prostate malignancies, as well as tumors of the head, neck, and central nervous system.
He is comprehensively trained in the delivery of advanced, highly targeted radiation techniques. By utilizing modalities such as Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT), Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS), and proton therapy, Dr. Kharouta designs precise treatment plans aimed at maximizing tumor control while protecting his patients’ quality of life. He has expertise in brachytherapy and performs localized procedures to enhance treatment accuracy and safety. This includes the placement of fiducial markers for real-time tumor tracking and rectal gel spacers to actively spare adjacent healthy tissue during prostate radiation.
His clinical approach is informed by a strong foundation in oncological research. Dr. Kharouta has conducted research across multiple disciplines, including genitourinary, head and neck, lung, and breast cancers, as well as medical physics. In addition to authoring multiple publications and a book chapter, his work has been presented at premier national and international symposiums, including the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) and the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO).
Born and raised in Chicago, Dr. Kharouta is dedicated to serving his community throughout the Chicagoland area, providing high-quality, specialized care to the community where he was raised. Outside of the clinic, he enjoys running, hiking, cooking, playing the acoustic guitar, and spending time with his wife and children.
