The Center For Cancer Care is a two-time recipient of Outstanding Achievement Award from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. Good Shepherd is one of six Illinois hospitals recognized with this prestigious award and one of 66 hospitals nationally receiving it.

Good Shepherd Hospital is one of only four Illinois hospitals to offers Selective Interventional Radiation Therapy (SIRT) for liver and pancreatic cancer patients as well as being one of only a few sites in the region to offer the highly accurate tumor targeting treatment Rapid Arc Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) as well as Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT). The Cancer program is the first in the State of Illinois to deploy SAVI Brachytherapy for breast cancer patients – cutting down the Radiation treatment time from six weeks to just five days.

Good Shepherd has developed ongoing community health education programs that address identified health concerns related to Cancer:

Look Good/ Feel Better; Cooking with Pina; Kids Night Out (fun support group for kids whose parents have Cancer); Day of Sharing (Annual Breast Cancer symposium); Cancer Survivor's Day; Smoking Cessation; Relay for Life; Free health screenings as well as an American Cancer Society Resource Center adjacent to our Radiation Oncology Department.
